Online Course to Become a CPC

I'm getting ready to sign up for an online course to become a CPC (AAPC).....they recommend that a person takes a medical terminology and anatomy course before but that it is not necessary. I've worked in the health care field for about 20 years as an executive assistant to the CEO.....I also oversee our medical staff office which does privileging for providers. I believe I can take the coding course without the medical terminology/anatomy course. I believe I can do it. Throughout the years, I have attended my share of medical staff functions/meetings and Board of Trustee meetings at which medical terms and topics have been discussed. I've had to transcribe minutes that include quality and medical staff information and feel fairly well rounded in that regard.

I'd like to get your thoughts on this. Appreciate it!

The problem will be with the Anatomy and Physiology.

But, if you believe you can do it, and are willing to do the extra research that might be needed for certain sections of coding--who is anyone else to say no?

I assume that AAPC finds that there is a higher success rate with that background, but again---

Good luck!
