CPT® Coding for T-Dap (Adacel)

We previously had problems getting paid for T-Dap (Adacel) and now again are having problems. Originally we were not adding the 90715, just using the 90471 on the bills and not getting paid. We added the 90715 (with a 0.00 charge) to automatically go every time we gave Adacel with 90471, the drug is charged through our dispensing machine when taken out. This seemed to work for quite a few months.
Now we are getting denials through private insurers (not Medicare). The biller says: The system pulls the 90471 causing billing errors, (she thinks because the 90715 has a 0.00 dollar attached to it. To add a bit more history this is on Emergency room patients that have injuries requiring immunization (and the injury is coded)
Thanks

Vaccines and their administration are reported using separate codes. So you would report 90471 (administration) and 90715 (vaccine/toxoid). If billing for an E/M be sure to add the -25 modifier to the E/M (99211 can not be billed even with the modifier added).
