PPD reading

I code a nurse visit for PPD reading with v74.1 ICD9 code. I am being told to use the v20.2 code since it is a continuation of the well since the Tb test was performed at that time of the well. Is this okay to use the v20.2 instead of the v74.1 code. I am told medicaid will not take it unless it is v20.2.

included?

i would think that the reading of the ppd is inclusive to the visit. i have previously worked in the clinical part of the office and have read ppd tests-it seriously didnt take that long and we didnt want to tie up a room to take vitals in order for a nurse visit(99211) to be billed. although i would check with your local state medicaid office as to if they even reimburse a nurse visit for a ppd reading.

PPD reading

Both CPT and CMS have said that a nurse visit is allowed for reading a PPD. Use the specific diagnosis.
