15734 component separation

We have been billing the component separation done with hernia repair using code 15734. I am being told by a coding instructor that 15734 is incorrect and a high audit risk. She advises using 49999 which I prefer not to if it is not necessary as it is difficult to get paid. All my internet research is pointing to 15734. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
