Provider Based Office and Licensed Social Workers providing home therapy visits.

If we choose to provide some home-based therapy for the frail elder population, from a provider based office.

Can we do this if they patient is not under a home health plan? This would be the case where the patient is frail and their Physician refers the patient to see a social worker for Psych therapy, and the LICSW or Psychologist would do a visit in the elderly frail patients home.

I want to be sure we are billing appropriately.

It is my understanding that the LICSWs ,and Licensed Psychologist can bill for these when they are done in the patient's home but not when they are in a nursing home. Is that correct?

Is there anything we need to know about billing for these visits, general supervision applies to the LICSWs??

I realize that the Place of Service should represent POS 12 "Home Location, other than a hospital or other facility, where the patient receives care in a private residence."

Social worker/Psychologist should bill under their own CMS NPI number, and they would only bill the professional component. And we would follow the guidance per our MAC National Government Services Part B LCD Local Coverage Determination -Psychiatry and Psychology Services (L26895)?

Thanks GCE
