Medicare and Medicaid postop EM codes

When patients who have had a surgery come in for postoperative visits should the first postop visit be coded as "postop" and the following visits as an EM code for patients with Medicaid or Medicare?

Under "Look it up!" type in postop and there is alot of information to help you. Search the site first before asking questions. Someone probably already asked it.

No. If the follow up visits are still in the global period of the proceudres you and are related to the original surgery you would not bill. If the service is unrelated to the original surgery and in the post op period you can bill the service with a 24 modifier.
