Bone Density Test Dx

I am having trouble finding a dx that will cover for a patient to have a bone density test. I pulled the MC LCD and those codes are not working either. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried Z13.820 screening for osteoporosis or maybe post menopausal status.

Is your pt a female who is postmenopausal, symptomatic or not? Z13.820 should work for the screening dx, but if you supplement that screening code with any postmenopausal codes that might apply, it might help to get it paid. You also have to remember that Medicare has strict guidelines regarding how often screening tests can be done. If the test was done even 1 day before it was permitted by their strict guidelines, the claim will probably be denied. Are you able to appeal to the insurance company giving any extenuating reasons/dxs for the screening? Good luck!
