Code for developmental delay

I provide early intervention developmental therapy to children at home. They have qualified for services because of developmental delay. I have always used the code 315.9 but now I'm told I need to use a more specific code. Does anyone have a suggestion for another code?

You will need to code for the specific developmental delay(s). 315.9 is an unspecified/generic code. Many payers are beginning to deny these codes as lacking medical necessity. It does not give the payer any real information about the areas of development delay.
