OB Global Package

Somewhere I thought I'd read that the initial office visit where a pt comes in thinking she is pregnant and the doctor does a test and finds out she is and then goes ahead and does her first prenatal visit, can be billed outside of the OB global pkg. Is this true?

If so, is there a specific ICD9 code needed for this visit?

re: OB Global Package

Take a look at ACOG's article on this.

Once the OB package starts: no separate billing.

Patient who presents to confirm pregnancy, has a short visit and then is scheduled for first OB visit, bill the E/M. This happens much less since home pregnancy tests became so prevalent.
