Removal of patellar component

Patient is status post patellar replacement for revision left knee arthroplasty. This has failed and has been indicated for removal of the patellar component.
DIAGNOSIS: Failed left patellar replacement left total knee arthroplasty.
PROCEDURE: Removal of patellar replacement.
A midline incision was created through the old scar, dissection was carried down to the extensor mechanism. There was an obvious rent in the extensor mechanism. The patella replacement was visible. It was easily removed. The sutures removed. There was no adherence to the soft tissue. The knee and wound were irrigated with greater than 1 liter of antibiotic saline. The rent in the patellar mechanism was closed with #2.
