Medicare

Help! We need help billing Medicare for Nutrition. Medicare patients are self referring themselves for Nutrition counseling and claims are all being rejected because box 17 must have an ordering/referring physician. We bill codes 97802/97803 and Nutritionist cannot be ordering/referring. What shall we do? Are codes correct?

those are the correct codes, can you use the patient's pcp as the referring doctor? or a MD on staff? otherwise you may need to require a referral before seeing medicare patients. I'm sure the pcp can fax you a referral, then appeal or send a corrected claim.
