Refraction is considered by many payers as a non-covered service code, billable to patient. Verify with individual commercial payer or State Medicaid.

refraction

Be sure that you are performing refraction: I'm dubious in a pediatric office. There was a machine on the market that the reps said could be billed as a refraction test, but at least the one I'm thinking of did not meet the criteria for refraction. This is typically an eye service, not done in Peds.

Thanks for responding. We are performing refraction with Pediavision. Medicaid has been paying on this code. What is confusing me that the new cpt 2010 is stating that 92015 is a non covered service, but yet Medicaid and several other insurances are paying toward this code. I have been told this is for the testing for eye glasses only to be preformed in an Opthomylogist office. So confused.

99174

Look at code 99174 for using Pediavision in your office. It is a screening test and it sounds like this is what you are doing.

I too believe that 99174 is the better code, again what is confusing me that the new cpt 210 has pinked 92015 as non covered but is still being billed
