Billing of CPT® 99386 prior to screening colonoscopy

Is it appropriate to bill CPT® code 99386 by a gastroenterologist prior to performing a screening colonoscopy? Would 99203 be appropriate?

For most insurances the pre-exam is included in the reimbursement for the screening colonoscopy. The only way you should bill a visit is if you address another problem. 99386 would not be appropiate.
