CPT® code for Medicare patient consult

What CPT® code do you use for a Medicare patient consult in the ER, Place of service 23?



Also if a patient has BCBS primary and Medicare secondary....You code consult as

99255 and BCBS pays but Medicare denies..Is there a modifier you use or do you

use 99223 on claim and if so would BCBS reconize this as a consult or admission?

ER Consult codes 99281-99285. Crosswalk CPT® 99255 for BCBS to 99223 for Medicare. Check with your Medicare contractor as to how they would like to report a consult code with they are secondary or perhaps someone else has a more definitive answer as to how they resolve this issue....best wishes!
