Tracheostomy with Bjork Flaps
Our physician states that Bjork Flaps are not typical skin flaps and therefore do not fit the description for procedure code 31610. Everything I read indicates they do fit that procedure code. I am concerned about a great deal of lost revenue.
Can anyone give me more information regarding this issue?
re: Tracheostomy with Bjork Flaps
I agree with code 31610 but as always documentation leads to accurate code.
re: Tracheostomy with Bjork Flaps
Bjork flap. It is an inferior based flap. Creation of this flap during tracheostomy helps to prevent tracheal stenosis. The usage of a Bjork flap is not compulsory. In fact, some tracheotomies (especially those performed in children) are vertical and do not require them. It is a technique of choice by the physician when used.
