Iv infusion 96367

Hello everyone,
I've just received a letter from an insurance requesting refund for 96367 that was billed for 3 pre-meds that were given sequentially 96367 x3 stating that those pre-meds were given each by short 10 -15 minute infusions therefore they should be reported with an IV push administration code. Is this correct? Where can I find the coding guidelines? Thanks so much.

push

Yes, they are correct--it is a push. Length of time, calculated by the start and stop times, determines whether a procedure is coded as an infusion or injection. To ensure accurate coding and billing, providers must understand the start and stop documentation requirement. Any infusion less than 15 minutes should be coded as an intravenous push injection.
