Post op visit with new problem

Pt came in for removal of sutures done 7 days ago, also, came in for tension. Dr. assessed and treat plan was given (prescription was given). How do you code this? Dr. submitted a 99204 and 99213. Is this correct?

Thank you,
Bhong

re: Post op visit with new problem

99204 and 99213 cannot be billed together. 99204 is for a new patient and 99213 is for an established patient. Removal of sutures is not billable if the physician put them in. If returning for a different problem in the post op period you would need a 24 modifier added to the visit code.

Agree. I think you meant 99024 not 99204.

I transpose numbers all the time. It's not a good habit for a coder (me) or a bank teller…..
