positive 82270

i have a patient that has medicare. That patient was sent home with cards for occult blood testing. She had other issues that prompted the physician to order this test(anemia, abdominal pain). The tests were positive. She is under the appropriate age for this test as per Medicare guidelines. how do i bill for this service?

diagnostic

You assign the symptoms (ex, 789.00) the patient was having that required the testing. Code 82272 is used for diagnostic. Code 82270 is used when screening. Age 50 applies to screening (82270), not the diagnostic testing. You are not screening, so use code 82272.
