Code 46934 i8s a deleted code as of january 1. You will note specific codes for external excision and the excision of both internal and external hemorrhoids, but there is not a code for internal alone.
The “any method” codes 46934-46936 have been deleted and replaced with a single code that is specific for destruction of hemorrhoids using thermal energy: 46930 Destruction of internal hemorrhoid(s) by thermal energy (e.g., infrared coagulation, cautery, radiofrequency). This was newly established to report various thermal energy procedures for hemorrhoids including but not limited to infrared coagulation, cautery, radiofrequency. Note that non-thermal energy procedures should not be reported with 46930. Rather, a parenthetical note has been added following CPT 46930 directing us to the appropriate codes for reporting the different methods of hemorrhoid destruction or removal.
