Telephone services

Hello- does anyone have any experience in billing for telephone services, CPT (99441-99443 and 98966-98968)? Scenerio-

Pt comes in 3/27/09 and is started on a new drug for their chemo- they call the office today (4/8/09) and they have been have severe diarrhea and vomiting. Initial call comes to the nurse and she spends approx 15mins with the pt getting the problem and/or counseling them on what to do, etc. Can this be coded as the 98967 as it was 15mins,it is non-face-to-face phone services after 7 days of the visit by a non-physician and no appt has been scheduled?

Does anyone have any info on telephone services? The correct way to document? Anything would be very helpful!!

Thanks

Telephone services

These services typically have a status indicator of B for bundled in the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Data Base. CMS considers telephone calls to be part of the pre and post work for other services.

See the article in Codapedia on this topic.
