Hi i have a question? Can a primary Doctor bill for G0117 ( screening for Glaucoma. Or only a Opthamologist can bill for this code.

re: G0117

What test method would the primary care doctor use? I think mostly this is done by tonometry, which I would not expect the PCP to have. But, is there another method that doctor is planning on using?

re: G0117

per the HCPCS definition, this must be performed by either an OPTOMETRIST or an OPHTHALMOLOGIST... most other physicians won't have the necessary office equipment to properly perform the screening...

re: G0117

I work for several primary care providers. They would like to purchase a tonometer. I noticed in the comments above the consensus was no, because PCP's wouldn't have the proper equipment. But would they be able to charge and be reimbursed if using the tonometer? And if so, would the proper code be G0117?

My office uses CPT® 92100. 95% of the claims are allowed but they tend to go to the PT ded.
