For every medicare patient the doc electronically prescribes during an encounter you are to submit code G8553 with a zero charge along with an office visit. Be sure your system is capable of sending a zero charge item to the carrier. This code is for informational purposes only.

i thot there were two g codes is it just one g code?

There are two hardship codes. G8642-rural health area w/out internet

G8643-No pharmacy with e-prescribe capabilities.
