Hernia Repair during Bariatric Surgery

Is it appropriate to bill hiatal or esophageal repair along/during bariatric surgery?

We have found conflicting opinions on this.

Absolutely!

I had Lap Band and hiatal hernia repair and my insurance company paid for both. The HH was reimbursed a little lower rate than the normal fee schedule because it was a repair during the Lap Band.

So whether it is anterior approach or posterior approach we can bill? We were told anterior is included but not posterior.

My understanding is that either approach is billable?
