Guidelines for NPP and Labs

Can a NPP sign-off on labs that were ordered by a physician to complete the chart notes, or, must a NPP only sign off on those labs ordered by him/her which fall within the scope practice for the NPP?

Thank you,

Labs inpatient

Are you talking orders or results? Many physicians use a check list. Columns may be headed as follows: meds (check this off when they reviewed their patient's medications), labs (checked when labs are ordered for next day or review of lab results), x rays (checked off as reviewed/ordered studies), and write note (when note is completed.) There is a risk of liability if an NPP signs off on lab results and the physician does not review and there is an issue if abnormalities exist. The physician knows why the tests were ordered. Need more information about exact circumstance and site of service. The physician should sign off on his/her own orders.
