Good morning..
Would like to ask what is the correct code to be used for this service. If this is the procedure done.

I & D:
Indication Abscess.
Prep Prepped with betadine, then cleaned the skin with alcohol.
Anesthesia Injected 1% lidocaine to prepped area.
Yield This yielded 5 cc of purulent fluid, The fluid was malodorous.
Result This substantially decompressed the swelling.
Dressing We placed a clean dressing.
Tolerance The patient tolerated the procedure well.
Disposition The patient was sent home in stable condition.

dx code: 682.7

The coder encoded 20005. So I was confused?
Do you think that would be appropriate to the procedure?

CPT® 20005 is through the soft tissue and fascia. If that is how far your doctor went down to I & D the abscess, then that code would be fine. If the doctor did not go down that far you will need to use 10060.
