Adjustment disorder with anxiety/309.24

Is it appropriate to "tag" a patient with dx code 309.24 when they are simply
stressed out due to Chemo or a Cancer dx? Please advise. Paula Preston,CPC

maybe. 309.24=Depression and anxiety that develop in response to an identifiable stressor that is beyond what is normally expected. So it depends on your definition of "simply stressed out."

What service are you providing? Did the patient present for their chemo to oncology and is stressed out? Are you the primary? Psychotherapist? Is it the primary or secondary diagnosis?
