medicare

I need help with this scenario to better understand how Medicare works when a patient has medicare in one state and then they travel or move to another.

If you have a patient that has medicare in one state(eg VT) (and the provider they see is contracted for medicare in that state VT) and then the patient moves to a neighboring state (eg NY)and wants to continue to see their provider in (VT) and the provider is NOT contracted with medicare in (NY). How does that work for billing purposes?

Thank you,

Martha

I am confused

Medicare is a national insurance- the bills may be paid by different entities depending on state but you always send the bill to the intermediary for your state and they will figure out who pays it. The snow birds who have a permanent address in the north but have doctors in Florida and Arizona for winter have no issues with their bills. Providers are contracted with Medicare nationally- all or none.
