How would I code this? Could someone please help me out?

Wouldn't Meningitis be the primary diagnosis? That is the primary illness. From a DRG viewpoint you want the cause of the hospitalization not the etiology of the illness

Patients who are admitted for an HIV-related illness should be assigned a minimum of two codes: first assign code 042 to identify the HIV disease and then sequence additional codes to identify the other diagnoses. If a patient is admitted for an HIV-related condition, the principal diagnosis should be 042, followed by additional diagnosis codes for all reported HIV related conditions. Thank you for all the help. These are the codes that I looked up also. I am very new to this just wanted to double check myself and make sure that putting code for AIDS first was exactly right. I am in school right now for ICP-9-CM and I am learning so much. Thanks again.
