Global period

Decision for surgery has been made. Patient comes in for pre-op physical 7 days before surgery. Can we bill an E&M level?
I am thinking we have a time frame from the time decision for surgery has been made until surgery is performed.

Or the primary care doc doing the pre-op clearance?

No, you cannot bill for the H&P seven days prior to surgery, once the decision is made. Look at the CPT Assistant in May of 2009.
