What is the point in using this code?

Per the definition I get from the site ICD-10Data.com its used for comfort care, see definition below from the site;
Comfort care only
Comfort care only status
Palliative care
Under care of palliative care physician

I would think maybe its used for patients that could be in Hospice and the provider is offering palliative care while their waiting their time out. Per the Hospice website this is what I got, when googled.


Palliative care (pronounced pal-lee-uh-tiv) is specialized medical care for people with serious illness. It focuses on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family.
