The new guidelines for consultation coding has us use 99221-99223 are these appropriate for a consultation nine days into a hospital stay to explain a procedure and its process? I see these as initial hospital care codes. Or are there better codes for this situation?

These are appropriate for a physician having the initial face-to-face with patient. Medical necessity must be documented. No AI modifier. Explaining a procedure sounds like pre-op visit, so need more information.
