Diagnostic PSA versus Screening PSA

When a patient has a prostate disorder or cancer (ex: 790.93/185) and it has been at least a year since they have had a claim sumbitted as a Screening PSA (G0103), can it still be coded as screening using the diagnostic icd-9, or should it be coded as diagnostic. I have heard and read conflicting info regarding this matter. One thing that has been pointed out, is that although they have a diagnosed condition, they are still entitled to the yearly screening.

re: Diagnostic PSA versus Screening PSA

What a great question! If they are in the midst of cancer treatment and you are looking for a response or relapse, then you use 185. If they are "cured" and not treating you are once again screening so the screening code now applies again.
