Does patient have to be notified while in office of UA results to charge 99211

This is a hot topic in my office, the Medical Assistants will document quite well the patients symptoms, how long they have had them and maybe even "home remedies" they have tried and then have them leave their sample and patients will then go home..... The MA and DR will discuss results of the UA and then the MA will usually call later that day. I am thinking the patient needs to be notified while in office, others say no, as long as everything is documented and the MA calls within a day or two the 99211 can be charged.

Any advice on this would greatly help!

Thank you so much

I'd say nope. The nurse visit was face to face getting the history and sample as required for 99211.. The test result can be transmitted by phone

No the patient does not have to be there. The nurse can call the patient with results and treatment, if needed.
