Billing for associate physicians

Our practice bills Medicare for newly hired associate physician under my name / NPI number, I feel that should not be case since I am not supervising that doctor and I am not in office for most part when he provides service.

I am told by our billing manager this is acceptable while we apply and wait for his Medicare provider enrollment, however, it has been six months that physician is working in our practice, and we barely applied for his enrollment.

My impression is we should not bill for his services provided to Medicare patients until his application is accepted , please guide if we should change the practice

I don't have the reference but you cannot do that!!! The doc must get credentialed with CMS- you cannot bill under another provider

We have always held claims until Medicare number was received.
