ear wash

If a patient is scheduled for an ear wash (irrigation)...,.does this have to be performed by a physician? Can it be done by a nurse or medical assistant?

Thanks! Lynda

I'm gonna say...

anyone can do it- I do my own flushes but my partners have their nurses do it and they get paid. But really that does not mean it is legal...

re: ear wash

When documenting that a patient is having impacted cerumen, does a physician need to indicate that the removal was done by ear irrigation or by an instrument in order to bill? Have a physician just documenting that the ear was irrigated.
