medical or mental health?

I have a patient currently being treated for bulimia and anorexia nervosa. She is also a Type 1 diabetic and sees an endocrinologist for that. She is now supposed to start seeing a dietician. Traditionally, dietician visits are considered medical as opposed to mental health and are not covered by the mental health carrier. However, in this case, since the patient is a diabetic, I believe there is a good chance of getting the claim paid. I'm going to get a letter of medical necessity from the endocrinologist. Are my chances better to submit to the medical or mental health insurance? Any advice on what I else I can do to support the need for these visits to the dietician?

Absolutely medical for the DM- the dietician takes into account the patients eating patterns and preferences to counsel so it is not gaming the system to use medical diagnosis.
