ICD-9 coding general OB guidelines for chapter 11 section a.1-found in the front of the book state that it is the provider's responsibility to state that the condition being treated is not affecting the pregnancy. You must request the note to be appended to clarify this.

You have to document this dos outside the prenatal notes and used ICD 9 code V22.2- incidental to pregnancy along with coding the problem.

I'm and internist and I occasionally see my patients for sore throats when they are pregnant and I code the sore throat and do not put any pregnancy code and I get paid. So this probably applies only if you are getting the global OB payment
