inpatient colonoscopy

My doctor admited a patient on day one for rectal bleeding. On day two he did a colonoscopy which was inconclusive so he kept patient over night and did a barium enema on day 3, patient was kept over night on day 3 due to unstable labs.....can i bill e/m service for each day that the patient was there plus a discharge?

yes

of course you can if the admit status was Inpatient. Be sure it was not Observation as often rectal bleeding with stable vitals is Observation.

A better question is can you bill the colonoscopy and an E&M on the same day for Day 2.

Billing when patient in for colonoscopy

You can bill the day of admission. No modifier needed.

The day of the colonoscopy, the E/M will bundle into the procedure (0 global days) unless it is separate and distinct.

The next day you can bill, no modifier needed.
