Venipuncture / Lab Draw

We are a large multi-specialty medical group that is part of a hospital. Some of our outlying provider offices have lab draw capabilities (phlebotomist) and the labs are forwarded to the hospital laboratory for processing. Some of our patients see providers that are not part of our medical group yet they want their labs drawn and processed by our facility. These patients will bring these lab requestions from outside providers to our offices that provide lab draw services ... is it appropriate to bill the venipuncture (36415) in the office, should this be captured by the lab or is this simply a free service?

You can

if they are established with you as a patient. The doc whose name goes on the claim should review the labs for critical values since they are accepting some liability by billing.
