Nonphysician telephone services
When RN's return phone calls to patients regarding medications, symptoms they are having and general questions, that would not normally warrant an office visit, can 98966-98968 be billed. If so, what kind of documentation is required? Do insurances accept these codes?
no, it must be a Billable provider- MD, DO, NP, PA
and no one will pay
98966-98969 for NPP
A qualified NPP is determined by your state guidelines. If a qualified NPP performs these services then you can report them to non-medicare payers but you will most likely not be reimbursed and the patient will be held responsible.
Not for RN's
Reporting these services for RN's would probably be seen as "out of their scope of practice."
