diabetic foot care

What is the correct code for doing a diabetic foot check? Is this considered part of an E/M visit or can it be billed separately?

you can bill separately

G0426 and G0427 are the codes, look up the documentation requirements

Check your carrier's website

I've been coding and billing since 1978. Podiatry coding is the most complex, with multiple requirements. Go to your carrier's website and view the Local Coverage Determination policy (LCD) for "Routine Foot Care." I bill for podiatry regularly and if you have more questions after reading the LCD - post away :-)

This is not a podiatry code!

Clarification- The codes I posted can be billed by any physician who examines a diabetic foot who has loss of protective sensation and documents it properly; it does not apply to routine podiatry foot care.

Lops

the LOPS codes (G0246/G0247) are only payable once every 6 months - important to keep in mind when billing them.
