Medical Decision Making...
Hello-
I know that you can give the doc "points" for personally reviewing the scans, my question is...
The physician states this...
Scans: Dexa Scan report reviewed
Does this count as a "1 point"? I ask this for two reasons... 1- he only states he reviewed the report and doesn't stated what came of it and 2- he only reviewed the report, making it "1 point" as opposed to personally reviewing the scan, making it "2 points"
Thanks : )
It is one point
The doc reviewed the report so 1 pt- if she did an "independent review of image, tracing or specimen" then she could get 2 points.
medical decision making
Can anyone fill me in on this point system for medical decision making...this is the hardest part for me...I've never really understood whether a patient with appendicitis requiring surgery is straightforward, low or medium....Where can I find a "formula" that helps me with this. thanks.

Medical Decision Making
Appendicitis is either moderate or high MDM, depending on when you see the patient.
For number of diagnoses: it is a new problem to you, as the examiner. Depending on when you see the patient, it is a new problem, or a new problem with a work up planned. (Sometimes, the ED doc has done all the workup by the time you arrive.) That gives you 3 or 4 points.
Data is typically two points: lab and xray
For risk, it is high complexity: emergency surgery, which is four points.
This tallies to either moderate (if new problem, no workup) or high (new problem, with workup.)
When I'm back in the office on Wed, I'll post an article about the point system and send an email that I've done it.
