critical care

I was informed that I can use critical care codes 99291 and 99292 as an add on code for pregnant patients with gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia etc... I'm not sure if that is correct or how to use these codes. Do I bill in addition to an NST? Do I bill if they don't have an NST just an office visit and can I still bill this separate when global billing? Help!!!

re: critical care

Critical Care codes are for critically ill patient visits- eclampsia with a seizure, not pre-eclampsia, DKA in a coma, not gestational DM. These patients are in the hospital, in a bed, and the doc needs to be at the bedside.
