H1N1 help

Is the code for this 90663 with 488.1? regular flu 90658 and 408.1? The cci edits the 90663 would you add a 25 modifier to that code?

H1N1 and reg flu vaccination

I am trying to find out what the guidelines are for billing the H1N1 and Reg Flu vacinations. My thoughts are this; for vaccination of regular flu, 90658 with v048.1 and the H1N1, 90663....dx code? and then the admin codes.

Thanks for your help on this

First of all....

There is no vaccine available. Second, the current "talk" is that the vaccine will be supplied to providers for free by the Feds so you cannot charge for the vaccine itself. You cannot buy this vaccine from the normal suppliers. Third, there has been no word on whether you can charge an administration fee (chances are yes) and whether the vaccine will be supplied with syringes and needles to keep down costs to the providers. There is no word on how we choose who to vaccinate, whether we can limit it to current patients or must accept any person that wants the vaccine, how medical providers can get vaccinated if their employer does not offer the vaccine, how we prevent riots when word gets out we have a vaccine, how we educate about the vaccine, and so on...

In Illinois, they surveyed providers about their current flu vaccine numbers and willingness to vaccinate with H1N1 and will be coming out with more information "soon."

That explains why I am getting nothing substantiated off the websites from the gov or the state...I am waiting for a call back from the DOH. I guess stay tuned. Thank you for your help!

On CMS's Open Door Forum call, today, 8/25/09, CMS said:

* Change request and MedLearn Matters articles will be coming soon
* There will be new codes for the administration/vaccine
* Vaccine will be available in mid-October, provider community will have access to it
* Vaccine will be FREE: do not bill Medicare for vaccine
* Will be able to bill for vaccine administration, same fee as administration for seasonal flu

I've updated the article on H1N1 to include the CMS developed administration codes for this vaccine. They developed a code for the serum/vaccine, but don't expect us to use it, because physicians will receive the serum free of charge. We will be able to bill for the administration, using code G9141.

You can read the article, and download a copy of the CMS transmittal by searching H1N1 in the box above "look it up" It's the only article.

dx for h1n1 vaccination

HI, I see someone asked if we would be getting into any duplicity issues when billing for two flu vaccines and using the V04.81 2x. I did not see a repsonse yet so I wondered is there a resouorce out there that has addressed this? Or should we bill it this way (V04.81) and deal with any potential denials later?

The diagnosis code is appropriate (V04.81). Some payers may instruct otherwise (ex, code V73.89). If not instructed otherwise I would use V04.81.

Is there a Dx code for H1N1? Not the vaccination. The actual "swine flu" itself.

Swine Flu

Swine Flu (488.1): A new code has been created, Oct 1, 2009, to track the incidence of this emergent disease which is also known as H1N1 influenza.
