Anesthesia Complications?

We had a patient that was under general anesthesia and when she was awakened, she was crying uncontrollably. The patient remained in this state for an hour and began to hyperventilate. The doctor considered the hyperventilation to be psychogenic, but it was relating to the drugs used during the general anesthesia. Would we code this as 995.22 (adverse effect of anesthesia) and 306.1 (hyperventillation, psychogenic)... or one and not the other? Any thoughts?

I would not

code it psychogenic- it could label her for life and haunt the doctor in a lawsuit
