Coding guidelines

We just recieved an email regarding Medicare requesting all 99245 before payment is issued. We flag all of our consults and audit them before they leave the office, but my question is, if we use 1995 guideline and Medicare uses 1997- will there be problems? Does anyone know what guidelines Medicare uses?

Thanks! : )

Are you sure it's from Medicare?

It is not like them to use email for official communications about an audit or targeted review. Did they ask for your social security number? ;-)

Medicare 95 or 97 guidelines

Medicare is requesting a copy of all consults level 5's right now, I just completed over 50 of them, they are looking to do away with consults all together, it isn't a matter of 95 or 97. Continue to code each chart to the benefit of the MD, whichever code set works best for the specialty.
