Refiling a paid claim

I recently filed a surgery claim and discovered I did not know about the rvu and Ncci edits rule. The claim was underpaid. I thought they paid the 1st code on hcfa and found out thats no longer the case

My question is can I go back legally and refile the claim or appeal it and change the codes around to what the insurance actually paid the most on because of the higher rvu and change the amount on that code to the highest amount? I would be using the same cpt codes but just changing them around and changing the amounts. Or what can I do if anything?

Thanks in advance for your help anybody!

Great question

I am bumping it to the top to see if anyone can answer it- come on billers- someone out there must have refiled a paid claim to get more money!

re: Refiling a paid claim

I have refiled a paid claim as a "corrected" claim. Some carriers their is no problem, others I have sent a copy of the correct coding guidelines for the CPT®. In both cases monitary adjustments have been made.
Thank you,
Diana
