Medicare vaccine administration

When a patient has an appointment for a tetanus diphtheria vaccine should we be billing a level I E/M visit 99211 along with the Administration 90471, and Tetanus Diphtheria 90718?

Medicare vaccine administration

No, do not bill a nurse visit for routine vaccine administration.

There's an article in the database called "nurse visit and flu shots" that addresses this in more detail. Search for it in the box above, "Look it up!"

But note-

Tetanus vaccination is not a Medicare covered benefit unless there is an injury so get an ABN signed if it is a routine vaccination. If it is an injury and given at the same time as a visit to assess the injury then link the vaccine to the V code and the injury code.
