Timeliness of physician signature on medical records

We are having trouble with a provider who has got behind in his chart notes and now the discussion has come up about how much time is allowed and they want it in writing. Where can I find this? I have searched CMS and our MAC but I am not having any luck.

Thanks,
Debbie

Look at this link and see if this is the information you need:

Thank you! We had found that but they want a specific amount of time like 72 hours. There may not be an answer for this.

Here is a good resource from WPS:
http://www.wpsmedicare.com/j5macpartb/claims/submission/documentation-timelines.shtml

Generally, they don't give a specific date for signatures but they do want it to be timely for purposes of the medical record. A tardy provider shouldn't impact validity or payment of the claim, but it is something you'd want to correct.
