CPT 45915

CPT 45915 removal of fecal impaction includes anesthesia. What code would be used if anesthesia was not administered (done in the office)?

part of the physical exam

Not part of my physical exam

Isn't that what nurses are for? (OK, start throwing tomatoes!)

part of physical exam, or not

I think Nancy meant there's no code for it, but not that you had to do it personally.

All our tomatoes got blight so I have none to throw, and of course wouldn't anyway.

nurse

That is exactly what I meant, as a nurse I have had personal experience that I would have loved to hand off to the physician!!! Never happened.

re: CPT® 45915

None of you have been responsive to the question asked: What is the CPT® code for digital fecal disimpaction without anesthesia. Doctors do perform such procedures when necessary. It is a minor surgical procedure.

re: CPT® 45915

You can not bill directly for ICD code 560.39 "Fecal impaction" b/o there are no associated CPT® codes for manual disimpaction.
But! Fecal impaction almost always associated with rectal prolapse ICD 569.1 b/o absent/poor anal sphincter tone. So CPT® 45520 "treatment of rectal prolapse outpatient without general anesthesia" is used in such a case. Medicare should reimburse $63 for it!
